A young Cuban reported on Saturday that he fell victim to an armed robbery on the Managua highway, near the La Chorrera bridge, in the Arroyo Naranjo municipality, south of Havana.

The victim shared his experience on the public Facebook group "Managua, Cuba," detailing the attack and urging the community to spread the word to prevent further incidents.

"Last night, I was assaulted on the Managua highway, particularly near the La Chorrera bridge," the young man wrote, including photos of his injuries to his hands and body, as well as the damage to his motorcycle.

According to his account, two men on a black motorcycle with yellow and white stripes confronted him. "The motorcycle had white front lights and yellow flashing lights," he noted, hoping to help others recognize the assailants.

"The attackers are armed with firearms, so exercise extreme caution," the victim warned, adding, "If you notice a motorcycle matching this description following you, stop in a safe place or take evasive actions to avoid being intercepted."

During the robbery, the criminals struck him from behind. Despite the assault's brutality, the young man managed to recover his motorcycle. "They hit me from behind, but thanks to God and the support I received, I was able to get my bike back," he mentioned.

Increasing Crime Rates Spark Concern

This incident is part of a growing series of armed robberies that have shaken various provinces in recent months. On Thursday, masked individuals armed with guns robbed two women in Pueblo Nuevo Norte, Cárdenas, Matanzas, taking cell phones, chargers, and personal documents; one suspect was apprehended.

On March 17, seven masked men on horseback raided an agricultural cooperative in San José de los Ramos, a municipality in Colón, Matanzas, firing shots into the air and stealing nine cattle. Four suspects were arrested in connection with the crime.

In January, two brothers were robbed at gunpoint in Santo Domingo, Villa Clara. The aggressors fired into the air and stole a gold bracelet and a rented car with personal documents.

In February, blind retiree Pablo Vega died in Cárdenas after being assaulted and robbed while waiting in line at a bank to collect 2,800 pesos intended for purchasing medication.

The pattern of two individuals on a motorcycle intercepting victims on highways is among the most frequently reported in citizen complaints.

Similar cases have been documented in Artemisa, Las Tunas, and Havana throughout 2025, indicating the spread of this crime method across the nation.

Social Media as a Community Alert Tool Amid Economic Crisis

Cuba is experiencing a severe economic crisis that has led to a surge in crime rates. With a perception of impunity and a lack of effective official channels, social media has become the primary means of community alert.

"Please, share this information to warn others. Blessings to all and stay safe," concluded the robbery victim in Managua.
