U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has declared that Donald Trump has significantly bolstered the safety of American citizens and their families more than any other president he has witnessed. Rubio offered this praise on Sunday, November 1, at a Republican rally in Salina, Kansas, as the campaign for the November 3 legislative elections reached its conclusion.
"The primary duty of any president is to ensure the safety of you and your families. No president in my lifetime has done this better than our current one," stated Rubio to the crowd.
The U.S. chief diplomat emphasized that Trump is committed daily to safeguarding families and the nation. "Because of his presidency, America is stronger, you are safer, and our adversaries are weaker worldwide," Rubio added.
Foreign security matters also featured in Trump's campaign messages that Sunday. At another rally in Dubuque, Iowa, the president described the operation to capture Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela as "a one-day war" where "nobody died," despite the casualties acknowledged by Cuban and Venezuelan authorities.
His brief remarks were captured in a video shared by the Rapid Response 47 account on X, along with a transcription of the event. Rubio's comments underscored his political support for Trump, though he did not provide statistics or comparisons to evaluate his claim regarding security improvements over previous administrations.
Trump responded with compliments and humor. After expressing gratitude for Rubio's comments, Trump stated that Rubio was doing "a great job" and jokingly threatened to fire him if his popularity continued to rise: "Marco, I'm sorry, you're fired."
The president went on to say that, in his opinion, Rubio would be remembered as "the best Secretary of State" the United States has ever had. He had expressed similar praise in March, also humorously commenting that he did not want Rubio to become "too popular."
