A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday when a private jet crashed in Greenacres, a community in Palm Beach County, Florida, resulting in the deaths of all nine individuals on board. This was confirmed by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy.

The aircraft, a Learjet 60, went down at approximately 12:50 p.m. in a residential neighborhood near Cresthaven. It had taken off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas, headed for North Eleuthera in the Bahamas.

“Today’s aviation tragedy in Palm Beach County is a devastating event,” Duffy stated on his X account, confirming the fatalities of all nine passengers.

Footage from the aftermath shows the jet descending rapidly and culminating in a massive explosion close to a busy road. The crash left a significant crater, with flames and thick, black smoke billowing near homes, as reported by the Associated Press.

The incident took place near the intersection of Military Trail and 10th Avenue North, prompting authorities to shut down traffic in both directions.

So far, the identities and nationalities of the victims have not been released. It remains unclear whether anyone on the ground was injured or killed.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will dispatch a team to aid the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in determining the cause of the crash.
