Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social this past Friday to announce his unwavering support for the re-election of Republican Congressman Carlos Giménez, who is running to represent Florida’s 28th District. This endorsement comes just days before the general election on November 3, 2026.

On the platform, Trump expressed, "Congressman Carlos Giménez is doing an outstanding job representing Florida's 28th District." He highlighted Giménez’s distinguished career prior to Congress, stating, "As a highly respected firefighter, civic leader, and Miami-Dade County mayor, Carlos has devoted his life to serving his community."

Trump outlined Giménez's legislative priorities, which include boosting the economy, cutting taxes and regulations, ensuring border security, curbing criminal immigration, strengthening the military, and safeguarding the Second Amendment. He concluded with a direct appeal: "Carlos Giménez has my complete and total endorsement for re-election. Go out and vote for Carlos, he will never let you down!"

This is the second endorsement Trump has extended to Giménez in 2026, the first being in February through Truth Social, months before the August Republican primary was canceled due to a lack of opposition, allowing Giménez to advance directly to the general election.

Born in Havana on January 17, 1954, Giménez emigrated with his family to the United States in November 1960, following the Cuban Revolution. He is the only member of the U.S. Congress born in Cuba. His public service career began in Miami's Fire-Rescue Department, where he served for 25 years and became the first Cuban-American to lead the department.

Giménez later served as Miami city manager, a Miami-Dade County commissioner, and the county's mayor from 2011 to 2020. He joined Congress in January 2021 and, since 2023, has represented the 28th District, which includes Monroe County and parts of southwest Miami-Dade, such as Homestead and Cutler Bay.

In the 2024 elections, Giménez defeated his Democratic opponent, Phil "Felipe" Ehr, a retired Navy commander, by securing 64.6% of the votes, a margin of nearly 30 percentage points. Trump also won the district by over 25 points in the same election, establishing it as a Republican stronghold.

The upcoming November 3 contest is a direct rematch: Giménez faces Ehr again, with independent candidate Eddy Rojas also in the race. On the financial front, Giménez leads, having raised approximately $722,000 with around $541,000 available, compared to Ehr’s $508,000 in donations.

Since his arrival in Congress, Giménez has been a staunch advocate for a stringent policy against the Cuban regime. In February, he declared, "We have waited 67 years for this moment," referencing the pressure tactics enacted by the Trump administration. In March, when asked about Cuba's future, he stated, "He believes the days are near. I trust the president."
