Edenis Cruz, a 19-year-old right-handed pitcher from Camagüey, has inked a deal with the Texas Rangers, securing a $145,000 bonus during the current international signing period. This information was shared by Francys Romero, a renowned journalist in the field, on his Facebook page.

According to Romero, the agreement is expected to be officially confirmed in the coming days. This rapid development makes Cruz one of the quickest Cuban prospects to enter the Major League Baseball (MLB) system after leaving the island.

In June 2026, Cruz departed Cuba alongside his twin brother, Edurman Cruz, who is also a right-handed pitcher from Camagüey. They relocated to the Dominican Republic, a common destination for Cuban baseball players seeking residency in a third country before negotiating with MLB teams.

Upon arriving in the Caribbean nation, Edenis honed his skills at the Dan Reverte Academy. His determination and talent captured the attention of the Rangers, completing the journey from Cuba to the signing in just four months.

Standing at 6 feet 4 inches, Cruz showcases a fastball ranging from 91 to 94 mph, coupled with excellent strike zone control. These attributes position him as a promising future asset within the Texas minor league system.

Cruz's background in Cuban youth baseball is impressive. Prior to the 2025 Under-18 World Cup held in Okinawa, Japan, he topped his category in the Cuban championship with six wins, a 1.47 ERA, and 44 strikeouts over 38 innings.

During that international tournament, the Camagüey native delivered a standout performance against Italy, allowing just one hit over five innings, contributing to Cuba's 8-0 victory. This performance bolstered his reputation as a top prospect of his generation.

The $145,000 signing bonus is considered modest in the international MLB market, which is typical for newly eligible prospects. Cuban prospects have frequently followed this path in recent years, training at Dominican academies before finalizing contracts.

This signing adds to the trend of young Cuban talent leaving the country in search of professional opportunities. Just this month, a 15-year-old pitcher from Villa Clara arrived in the Dominican Republic to prepare for the 2027-2028 international period.

"The signing will be officially confirmed in the coming days," stated Romero, a member of the Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA) and a leading expert in tracking Latin American prospects.
