A flight attendant working for American Airlines was apprehended at Miami International Airport, accused of orchestrating a fraudulent scheme that swindled approximately $25,310 from a 75-year-old woman residing in Palm Coast, Florida.

Investigators revealed that the suspect leveraged her job perks to travel for free to the victim’s city, gain access to her home, and ultimately her bank cards. The accused, Destiny Blake, 24, from Brooklyn, New York, was detained on October 23, 2026, by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents upon her return from an international flight, as reported by the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

Fraudulent Activity Traced Back to a Phony Prize Call

The arrest warrant, issued on October 13, came after an investigation into fraudulent banking activities and purchases occurring between November and December 2025.

The fraudulent scheme commenced in November 2025 with a call claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House, a well-known American company for its sweepstakes and prizes. The caller convinced the victim she had won a prize, but to receive it, she needed to mail a $500 gift card to Destiny Blake’s address in Brooklyn.

Following these instructions, the victim soon found herself locked out of her email, with passwords and recovery details altered. Investigators also uncovered modifications linked to a similar email address the victim never created.

Unauthorized Withdrawals and Suspicious Transactions

Between November 15 and 19, 2025, the victim withdrew over $14,000 from her bank account. Authorities discovered Blake received $14,220 through cash and Zelle transfers.

Blake exploited her flight attendant benefits to travel without cost to Florida, where she visited the victim’s residence. On November 18, 2025, she flew standby from New York to Daytona Beach, later taking an Uber to a hotel in Palm Coast for an overnight stay. The following morning, she briefly visited the victim’s home, leaving around 11:00 a.m.

Court documents, cited by People Magazine, note the victim’s medical issues rendered her unable to recall the encounter. A note found by the victim’s sister instructed a call to the credit card company, falsely identifying Blake as the victim's granddaughter with authorization to use the account.

Extensive Fraudulent Purchases Uncovered

Blake was added as an authorized user on the victim’s Apple Card, leading to purchases at airports in Daytona Beach and Charlotte, North Carolina. Investigators pinpointed 88 unauthorized transactions totaling $10,590.30 between November 16 and December 11, 2025.

These transactions included a $1,740.91 eBay purchase sent to Blake’s Brooklyn address and $1,523.16 spent on Apple products. Charges were also made at T-Mobile, Ugg, a Brooklyn beauty salon, and numerous Uber and Uber Eats orders. A Jamaican currency Uber transaction occurred in Kingston two days after Blake’s airline trip to Jamaica.

The investigation linked Blake to these operations through online purchases made with her name, email, and phone number. Surveillance footage captured her using the victim’s card at a Queens, New York supermarket, and phone location records placed her near various stores during the transactions.

Legal Consequences and Public Appeal

Blake is facing three felony charges: engaging in a scheme to defraud over $20,000 from a person aged 65 or older, fraudulent use of personal identification information of someone aged 60 or older, and grand theft over $20,000. Post-arrest, she was taken to Miami-Dade County jail and later released on a $30,000 bond. Her arraignment is scheduled for November 24, 2026, in Florida's Seventh Judicial Circuit.

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly condemned Blake’s misuse of her work benefits for criminal purposes. "While most flight attendants use their benefits to explore the world, Blake used hers to exploit an elderly woman, live lavishly on stolen bank cards, and thought she could evade capture," Staly remarked to NBC Miami. "Our detectives clipped her wings. Her next destination? Flagler County to face justice."

The Sheriff's Office urges anyone suspecting similar fraud or having financial dealings linked to Blake to contact their investigators at 386-313-4911.
