Two Cuban nationals have been deported from Russia due to insufficient documentation required for legal residency and employment in the country. Additionally, Russian authorities have barred them from re-entering the country for a period of five years.

This decision was carried out in the Nizhni Novgorod region, as reported by regional newspaper Nizhegorodskaya Pravda, which cited information from the Regional Directorate of the Russian Federal Bailiffs Service.

The report highlighted that the Cubans lacked valid documents necessary to justify their temporary stay and to legally engage in work-related activities in Russia.

Before being deported, both individuals were held at a temporary detention center designated for foreign nationals, where they awaited the enforcement of this administrative action.

Upon completion of the necessary procedures, Russian judicial officers escorted them to a border checkpoint, where they were handed over to border service officials.

No details were released regarding the identities or ages of the individuals involved. Further information concerning the duration of their stay in Russia, the circumstances leading to the discovery of their immigration violations, or the exact date of their deportation was not disclosed.

In a separate incident in February 2025, two Cuban migrants were deported from Nizhnevartovsk, located almost 3,000 kilometers east of Moscow, after overstaying their legal residency period. Prior to their expulsion, they were also placed in a temporary detention center.

Earlier this year in April, relatives of Cuban migrants reported that their family members were being sent to the deportation center in Saharovo, near Moscow, where they were allegedly detained for indefinite periods with limited communication with the outside world.

More recently, in October, a journalistic investigation uncovered cases of 11 Cubans who were transferred from Russia to Uzbekistan between March and September, without prior notification of their destination. The affected individuals claimed they had anticipated returning to Cuba but found themselves in a third country, some lacking the financial means to continue their journey.

According to data released by Nizhegorodskaya Pravda on October 12, a total of 1,340 foreigners have been deported from the Nizhni Novgorod region since the beginning of 2026 due to violations of immigration regulations.
