Andy Vázquez Hospitalized in Health Scare, Cancels Miami Show

Thursday, October 22, 2026 by Joseph Morales

Cuban comedian Andy Vázquez revealed in an Instagram video this Thursday that he was hospitalized due to a severe health crisis linked to his diabetes. He announced he would be unable to perform at his scheduled show on Friday, October 23, in Miami.

In the video on his Instagram account, Vázquez detailed that the incident began while filming a commercial at a Peruvian restaurant where he indulged without restrictions.

"I ate without discipline because everything was so delicious... I even had flan, my blood sugar soared to 273, and my blood pressure dropped to 80 over 40," he recounted.

The dangerous combination of a glucose spike and a sudden drop in blood pressure left him in a critical condition while driving his vehicle.

Thankfully, he managed to park the car safely. A friend who was with him quickly took him to a nearby medical center, just two minutes away.

"I almost didn't make it; I arrived at the hospital in bad shape. Jennifer said I looked green," he described.

Vázquez remained in the hospital until the early hours of the morning and, at the time of recording the video, still felt dizzy with a mild headache.

"We still don't know exactly what's happening; I was really in bad shape," he admitted.

The artist shared his ordeal to explain his absence to those who had purchased tickets for his performance at Supermachi. Comedian Ramón Mustelier will replace him, ensuring a night full of laughter for the audience.

Vázquez is scheduled to meet with his doctor to determine the precise cause of his health issues. He acknowledged having had similar hospitalizations in the past, which he chose not to disclose.

Concluding the video, Vázquez sent a heartfelt message to his fans: "The scare was quite significant. I'm going to take better care of myself for my sake, for my children, for my family. I always tell you to take care of your diabetes, don't consume sugar, don't eat bread, don't eat anything that could harm you. Health must be a priority."

This isn't the first health scare the comedian has faced in the United States. In January 2021, he was hospitalized with severe COVID-19 complications and admitted he feared for his life. In 2022, he underwent surgery to remove a tumor from his hand, which turned out to be benign.

Known for his character Facundo Correcto on the Cuban show Vivir del Cuento, Vázquez moved to the United States in late 2019, where he has built an active artistic career in exile.
