Rolando Zaldívar Enters Rehab for the Second Time

Friday, October 16, 2026 by Sofia Valdez

Cuban radio host Rolando Zaldívar has reportedly entered a rehabilitation facility located outside of Miami, as announced this week by the community project Conducta Dade in a video shared on Facebook.

The group waited 48 hours before making the announcement to ensure that Zaldívar remained committed to the program and adhered to the center's rules and activities.

"Finally, after much effort, we managed to get Rolando into a rehabilitation facility situated outside of Miami, away from the environment he's been in for so long," stated Conducta Dade in their announcement.

Challenges of Early Recovery

In the video, a member of the project cautioned that the initial days are the toughest due to anxiety and withdrawal symptoms. He described cocaine addiction in straightforward terms: "Cocaine is mental. Remember that. It's not just a habit; it's a mental illness."

This marks Zaldívar's second attempt at such a program. Earlier this year in February, he publicly admitted to his addiction, stating he had been using substances for "about a year and a little more," and entered his first rehab facility, which he left in April.

A Community's Support

Conducta Dade emphasized that recovery processes are not always straightforward and that the first attempt might not be sufficient, reiterating their commitment to supporting him without judgment.

In this video, the author urged the community not to rush to conclusions: "We are not celebrating a recovery that hasn't happened yet. We are celebrating that Rolando has taken an important step. It's now up to him to seize this opportunity."

Reflections on a Difficult Journey

Last August, Zaldívar was found again on the streets of Miami in a state of extreme physical exhaustion. Reflecting on his plight, he expressed his sorrow with the phrase: "For everyone, including myself, dreams have been shattered."

Conducta Dade then expressed hope that Zaldívar was "beginning to hit rock bottom" and would soon seek help voluntarily. His recent admission confirms that this decision was finally made.

Zaldívar gained recognition as one of the most renowned voices on Cuban radio during the 1990s, particularly for his role in the program "Disco Fiesta 98" on Radio Ciudad de La Habana. After leaving Cuba, he lived in Mexico and Houston before settling in Miami in 2014. Over the years, his addiction distanced him from the media and led to increasing vulnerability.

His struggles became public in November 2025 when he was arrested in Miami for petty theft and cocaine possession, with bail set at $150. The release of his mugshot, showing him visibly deteriorated, sparked a wave of reactions within the Cuban community.
