Florida's Chief Financial Officer, Blaise Ingoglia, officially opened an in-person insurance claims assistance center in Destin on Sunday, just a day and a half after Hurricane Isaias made landfall in the Panhandle, as per the Department of Financial Services' statement.
This new facility, called the Insurance Assistance Hub, is located at the Morgan Sports Complex, 4200 Indian Bayou Trail, Destin, FL 32541. It marks the quickest establishment of such a center following a hurricane impact in Florida's history.
Starting on Monday, October 12, the center will operate from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. central time, and it plans to remain open until Friday, October 16.
"Floridians recovering from Hurricane Isaias shouldn't have to navigate the insurance claims process alone," Ingoglia stated. "This resource will aid policyholders in understanding the process, getting answers to their questions, and taking the necessary steps to rebuild their homes."
On its inaugural day, 12 insurance companies participated, with expectations for more firms to join throughout the week.
Tower Hill Insurance announced on its website that their representatives will be available at the complex from Monday, October 12, through Friday, October 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. central time, to assist affected policyholders.
The center's mission is to help file claims and clarify coverage questions. It does not guarantee payments, process FEMA assistance, or offer new policy contracts.
Individuals unable to visit in person can call 1-877-693-5236 (1-877-MY-FL-CFO) or visit the Consumer Services portal of the Department of Financial Services.
Authorities are also cautioning about potential fraud activities following the disaster, including unlicensed contractors, adjusters, and scammers seeking to exploit the situation. There's a designated line for reporting fraud: 1-800-378-0445, or reports can be made at FraudFreeFlorida.com.
