The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has taken into custody Angel Ramirez-Castillo, a Cuban national with convictions for attempted murder and aggravated assault in Miami. His case has been prominently featured in the latest "Worst of the Worst" official release on Thursday.
Ramirez-Castillo was spotlighted alongside four other detainees from Jamaica, El Salvador, and Guatemala, all of whom have criminal histories involving murder, statutory rape, kidnapping, and drug trafficking.
ICE's Stance on Immigration Enforcement
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin issued a strong statement accompanying the announcement: "The courageous patriots of ICE have apprehended murderers, sexual predators, kidnappers, and other threats to public safety in our communities. Under President Trump, there will be no sanctuary for illegal aliens. If you are in this country illegally, we will find you, arrest you, and remove you from our nation."
This case adds to a series of similar apprehensions recorded throughout 2026.
Recent Cases Highlight Cuban Arrests
In recent weeks, DHS included Cuban Marco Nunez-Mitjan, detained in Orlando, among the 5,000 new profiles added to the platform at the end of September, with a criminal background featuring lewd acts with a minor and failure to register as a sex offender.
Previously, in July, another Cuban national was named on the list for ties to the Sureños gang and a history of child exploitation and manslaughter.
August saw an additional case involving a Cuban charged with sexual offenses against a minor and arson, followed by September's arrest of another Cuban in St. Petersburg with convictions for soliciting murder.
The Growing 'Worst of the Worst' Database
The "Worst of the Worst" platform (WOW.DHS.gov) was launched in December 2025 by the Trump administration to publicize profiles of unauthorized immigrants arrested by ICE who have serious criminal records.
By the end of September, the site had surpassed 40,000 registered profiles, following the addition of 5,000 new cases during that update.
"We have added another 5,000 criminals to our website of the most dangerous, bringing the total available to over 40,000," Mullin stated on that occasion.
Spike in Cuban Arrests
ICE arrests of Cubans have surged over the past two years. According to an analysis by the Cato Institute, the arrests of individuals from the island increased by 463% between October 2024 and January 2026, amidst the Trump administration's intensified immigration policy.
The ICE office in Miami, which has jurisdiction over Florida, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, recorded more than 41,000 arrests between January 2025 and April 2026, averaging about 120 detentions daily.
