Marcia Sangronis, a 38-year-old officer with the North Bay Village Police Department, was apprehended by Hialeah police on Tuesday. She faces charges of physically assaulting her boyfriend after he attempted to end their relationship and leave her home in the western part of the city.

According to an arrest report published by Local 10, the couple had been together for about two years and spent the previous night at Sangronis's residence. Around 11 a.m., the boyfriend began gathering his belongings and informed her of his decision to break up.

Details of the Incident

At that moment, as per the police report, Sangronis blocked the doorway, telling him, "You can't leave." When he tried to reach for the doorknob, she reportedly began attacking him.

"The victim said she scratched his arms, face, and back multiple times. He also stated that she bit him several times on his left forearm," the Hialeah Police report documented.

Officers took photographs and documented three bite marks on the man's left arm, one of which broke the skin.

A History of Abuse

The boyfriend revealed that this was not the first incident of such aggression. "He said he managed to break free from (Sangronis) and leave the house. He also mentioned that (she) has physically and emotionally abused him during their two-year relationship," the report indicated.

Once outside, the man flagged down Hialeah police officers to report the incident. Sangronis later went to the police station to give her statement, leading to her arrest and subsequent transfer to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in western Miami-Dade County.

Previous Incidents and Legal Proceedings

The report further details previous incidents where, according to the boyfriend, Sangronis would become "furious and violent" during arguments over "her lack of motivation to advance in her police career."

This same topic reportedly came up the night before the incident and again the following morning, sparking the argument that led to her arrest.

The police report redacted Sangronis's statement, making her side of the story unavailable to the public. Her attorney also refrained from commenting.

Conflicting Accounts from Witnesses

The incident shocked neighbors who knew the couple. However, one neighbor, who chose to remain anonymous, provided a different perspective of what occurred outside the residence, as reported by Telemundo 51: "I saw that it was the man preventing her from leaving. She was saying she would call the police, and he was insisting she promise not to."

During a court appearance on Wednesday, Sangronis faced an initial charge of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, a second-degree felony in Florida. The judge found probable cause only for simple battery, a misdemeanor, and set her bond at $1,000.

She was also ordered to stay away from the victim, with no direct or third-party contact. Sangronis was referred to the Pretrial Services program, allowing supervised release with conditions.

Departmental Suspension and Broader Implications

The North Bay Village Police Department confirmed the arrest and announced Sangronis's suspension with pay. "The department holds all personnel to the highest standards of conduct and holds them fully accountable for their actions, both on and off duty," the statement read.

Records cited by NBC Miami indicated that Sangronis was sworn in as an officer in 2025 and was on probationary status at the time of her arrest. This case adds to a series of domestic violence incidents involving officers in the Miami-Dade area, including the arrest in June 2025 of a county sheriff's deputy accused of kidnapping and assaulting his fiancée.
