Candido Fabre Calls for Humanity from Cuban Government Following Baby Lores Incident

Monday, October 5, 2026 by Felix Ortiz

Renowned Cuban singer Candido Fabre, who has been a vocal supporter of the Cuban government, has made a heartfelt plea for the regime to allow emigrants to return to the island for humanitarian reasons, especially to visit family members. Despite political differences, he called for a "truce."

Fabre's appeal was posted on Facebook under the title "HUMANITY" this Monday, just two days after Cuban authorities barred Baby Lores from entering the country as he urgently traveled to see his mother in intensive care. Although Fabre's post did not explicitly mention the singer, the timing was unmistakable.

A Call for Peace and Compassion

"I wish for anyone wanting to visit peacefully and, especially for humanitarian reasons, to be welcomed to their homeland, regardless of political differences," Fabre expressed in his message.

The musician directly addressed the authorities, urging, "I ask the Cuban government to consider my request. It would be another revolutionary victory to unite this species."

Significant Appeal from a Loyal Supporter

Fabre's statement is particularly noteworthy because he has long been aligned with the government. In May, he energized the May Day celebrations in Bayamo with chants of "Viva Fidel!" during a concert honoring dictator Fidel Castro's centennial.

Earlier in January, he declared that "with revolution and socialism, it is possible to inspire people and move them forward," and in March 2025, he participated in a revolutionary reaffirmation event in Rio Cauto, Granma, following public protests.

Balancing Support and Criticism

Nonetheless, Fabre clarified that his request does not signal a shift in his political stance. He disavowed calls for a "military invasion" of Cuba and insisted that his proposal should be carried out "without abandoning our principles." He also reiterated the government's narrative on the U.S. embargo, describing it as a "ferocious blockade trying to slowly suffocate this nation."

Fabre closed his statement with a line that highlights the tension between his support for the system and his current appeal to the authorities: "Let's prove that we are not the villains."

This is not Fabre's first attempt to bridge the gap with Cuban emigrants. Earlier this year, in March, he suggested creating a bridge from Miami to Havana so that "everyone can come."

Ongoing Silence on Baby Lores' Situation

The case of Baby Lores, whose real name is Yoandys Lores Gonzalez, remains unanswered by Cuban authorities. The artist reported being forced off a plane at Miami International Airport minutes before its departure to Cuba.

"I bought my ticket, boarded the plane, and sat waiting to take off. Moments before departure, they made me disembark. They denied me entry to the country where I was born," Lores recounted.

This Monday, rapper El B also responded to the ban on Baby Lores, criticizing the Cuban regime while noting that the singer had previously supported the government and even tattooed Fidel Castro's image.
