The Directorate of Identification, Immigration, and Foreign Affairs (DIIE) within Cuba's Ministry of the Interior has confirmed that the cost for obtaining a Cuban passport domestically remains at 2,500 pesos. This statement comes in response to social media rumors suggesting a price hike.
"It is untrue that there has been any increase in the fee for a standard Cuban passport requested within the country," stated the DIIE in an official note shared on Facebook. The agency emphasized that the fee for issuing the document "remains at 2,500 pesos in national currency, as per the guidelines set by the Ministry of Finance and Prices."
The misunderstanding arose after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs published Resolution 37/2026 on September 24, signed by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. This resolution introduces a new consular fee effective from October 1.
These new fees apply to services processed at Cuban consulates and diplomatic offices abroad and do not affect the cost of passports requested within Cuba. Under the new pricing, passports for individuals over 16 years old will cost 200 dollars or euros abroad and will be valid for ten years. For those under 16, the fee is 160 dollars or euros, with a validity of five years, while a provisional passport will cost 120 dollars or euros.
Resolution 37/2026 supersedes Resolution 116 from October 15, 2025, which had set the passport issuance fee abroad at 120 dollars.
The DIIE reminded Cuban residents that they can apply for the document in person at MININT's Offices of Procedures or via the government platform "Soberanía," which facilitates the process and payment through Transfermóvil or EnZona.
The agency assured that "any updates regarding taxes on identity and travel documents, certifications, or others issued by the Ministry of the Interior will be communicated promptly through official channels."
The new consular fees also include various increases for those processing documents outside of Cuba. Notably, it establishes a total cost of 1,000 dollars or euros for renouncing Cuban citizenship: 500 for the application and an additional 500 upon approval.
