Aleida Guevara March, the daughter of Ernesto "Che" Guevara and a frequent spokesperson for the Cuban regime's propaganda, landed in Brussels on Monday. She is set to participate in the forum "Cuba Yes, Blockade No," organized by The Left Group in the European Parliament, as reported by the official Cuban diplomatic missions website.
The Cuban ambassador to Belgium, Juan Antonio Fernández Palacios, welcomed her at the airport alongside members of the diplomatic mission, describing her schedule as "a packed agenda" from the very first day of her visit.
The forum is slated for Wednesday, September 30, and Thursday, October 1, with a public demonstration led by Guevara March scheduled for midday Thursday at the European Parliament headquarters.
Her visit comes merely twelve days after the same institution passed a stringent emergency resolution on Cuba with 374 votes in favor, 198 against, and 19 abstentions. This resolution demands the immediate release of Félix Navarro and his daughter Saylí Navarro, calls for individual sanctions against those responsible for repression—including Miguel Díaz-Canel—and threatens to suspend the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Cuba if democratic progress is not observed.
In the resolution approved on September 17, the European Parliament recorded a total of 1,339 political prisoners in Cuba, including 155 women, 38 minors, and dozens of individuals with severe health conditions.
While Guevara March presents the embargo narrative to European lawmakers as the root of Cuba's problems, the island is suffering one of its worst energy crises in 2026. There have been at least eight total blackouts of the national electrical system this year, generation deficits exceeding 2,400 MW, and power outages lasting up to 87 consecutive hours in some provinces.
The Left Group, the event's organizer, represents the pro-regime minority within the European Parliament, contrasting with the institution's majority stance, which in April 2024 banned regime representatives from entering its facilities.
Guevara March's agenda in Brussels also includes meetings with the Cuban embassy staff and representatives of the Belgian Workers' Party at their headquarters.
This is not the first time Dr. Guevara March has been involved in controversial incidents in Europe.
