The Cuban regime is set to increase the cost of passports for individuals over 16 years old to $200 or €200 when processed at its consulates abroad, marking a $20 hike from the rate set in 2023.
This updated fee is outlined in Resolution 37/2026 from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX), signed by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla. The new pricing will take effect starting October 1st.
The $200 or €200 charge applies to passports for those over 16, granting a validity of ten years.
For children under 16, the passport will cost $160 or €160 and will be valid for five years, while a temporary passport is priced at $120 or €120.
This increase reflects a $20 rise from the July 2023 price, when the adult passport fee was set at $180 or €180, with its validity extended to ten years.
MINREX has justified this adjustment by citing the "complex current international macroeconomic landscape, characterized by sustained global inflation impacting all economic sectors."
This change comes just months after Ana Teresita González, the Director General of Consular Affairs and Cuban Residents Abroad, stated in January that "no modifications to the current rates had been approved," amidst confusion sparked by new regulations concerning migration services.
The previous regulation had kept the passport cost within Cuba at 5,625 pesos and aimed to generate foreign currency revenue through certain services.
This passport fee increase is part of a broader review of consular tariffs that will affect numerous procedures for Cubans living abroad starting in October.
These include civil registry documents, academic certifications, and the process for renouncing Cuban citizenship, which can cost up to $1,000 or €1,000.
In eurozone countries, fees will be collected in euros. Elsewhere, consulates will charge in U.S. dollars or the local currency equivalent, as authorized by MINREX.
Resolution 37/2026 also stipulates that services requested outside regular hours or on non-working days will incur double the standard fee, except for cases involving itinerant consulates.
The new regulation repeals Resolution 116 from October 15, 2025, and will be implemented in Cuban consular offices starting next month.
