The tragic killing of Cuban dentist Tomás Medina, who owned DentalMed, occurred on Saturday afternoon in the rear parking lot of Plaza Galerías in downtown Cancun, located in Supermanzana 2.
Reports from local outlets indicate that Medina had just finished his workday and was heading towards his car—a white Seat Ibiza—when two men on a motorcycle approached him. One of them fired a shot to his head at close range.
His lifeless body was discovered next to his vehicle in the parking area. The assailants quickly fled the scene and managed to evade capture.
Employees and visitors at the plaza promptly called 911, prompting the arrival of Cancun's Municipal Police, who secured the area.
Paramedics from a private company arrived but confirmed that Medina had already died.
Subsequently, investigators from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office, specifically the Homicide Unit, launched an investigation and collected evidence at the crime scene. The victim’s family members were also present and provided statements to the authorities.
The body was transported to the Forensic Medical Service for an autopsy.
Initial media coverage led to some confusion, with various local outlets reporting different names for the victim, such as "Thomas M." and "Jesús Medina Mendoza." However, the specialized publication Expediente Quintana Roo confirmed the victim's identity as Tomás Medina, a Cuban national.

As of Monday, no arrests had been made in connection with the murder of Tomás Medina. The State Attorney General's Office continues to investigate to determine the motive and apprehend those responsible.
