Misael Aguilar Santurio, an 18-year-old, has been taken into custody following accusations of shooting at a 16-year-old during an argument inside a vehicle in southwest Miami-Dade County, as reported by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO).

A CBS News report, which reviewed the arrest affidavit, states the event took place on Thursday evening around 6:30 p.m., near Southwest 203rd Street and 129th Avenue, in the Homestead area.

According to the arrest report, Aguilar Santurio was in a black Ford truck with four others when he allegedly pointed a firearm at one of the passengers.

The 16-year-old attempted unsuccessfully to disarm Aguilar Santurio and fled from the vehicle, at which point he was shot multiple times in the lower body.

Another passenger tried to restrain the suspect from behind to prevent further gunfire, but Aguilar Santurio turned and fired once towards the group, fortunately missing everyone.

The injured teenager was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center, where he was reported to be in critical but stable condition.

The MDSO confirmed that a second teenager, who tried to intervene during the shooting, was also targeted, though he was not struck by gunfire.

Following the incident, Aguilar Santurio fled the scene at high speed. Surveillance footage from neighbor Cecilia Richardson captured the police activity and the truck speeding away.

“We just saw cars speeding through the neighborhood, and then the police arrived within minutes. It all happened so fast. We did hear two shots,” Richardson told CBS Miami.

Another local resident, Ruben Gonzalez, described the situation: “I heard what sounded like gunshots. It was like pop, pop, pop. It’s something rare for this neighborhood. It’s unsettling because I have young kids too.”

The case took an unexpected turn when Aguilar Santurio's foster father contacted authorities on Friday to voluntarily turn in his son and the weapon used.

Officers searched the home, recovered the firearm, and made the arrest less than 24 hours after the shooting.

After his arrest, the 18-year-old provided what authorities referred to as a “self-incriminating statement,” according to the arrest report cited by the Miami Herald.

Aguilar Santurio is facing charges of second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a firearm.

Upon hearing about the arrest, Gonzalez expressed relief: “I’m glad. I’m glad. Keeps him away from here.”

The MDSO stated that the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. The suspect is being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center while awaiting bond determination.

This incident adds to a series of gun violence cases in Miami-Dade this September, including a shooting in Little Havana earlier this month that resulted in two deaths and two injuries.
