Roldán Expresses Gratitude to Alejandro Sanz for Welcoming Him: "This Country Boy Never Dreamed of Sitting with You"

Roldán González, co-founder of the Cuban band Orishas, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram this Wednesday, extending his gratitude to Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz for hosting him in his home. The Cuban artist described the encounter as a moment he never envisioned experiencing.

"Ale, thank you, brother, for opening your home to this country boy, who never thought he’d be able to sit here with you, share, and feel so much warmth," Roldán wrote on his Instagram account. His post included a picture by photographer Basilio Silva, capturing both musicians seated on a white sofa, with UNO game cards on the coffee table.

In his message, Roldán also emphasized the affection Sanz holds for his bandmate Yotuel and Silva himself, concluding with a sentiment that encapsulates the essence of their meeting: "It's wonderful to feel that a piece of our Cuba lives within you. You, too, were born an Orisha."

"I am incredibly honored, brother," the Cuban artist added at the end of his post.

The Growing Bond Between Artists

This gathering at Sanz's residence marks yet another public indication of their burgeoning friendship. Just a week earlier, on September 10, Yotuel had shared another photo with Roldán and the Spanish singer, fueling speculation about a potential musical collaboration among the trio.

On that occasion, Yotuel commented: "Having you with us, sharing this journey, and knowing our music comes together in this way still feels like a dream."

The phrase "our music comes together" was seen by many fans as a hint of a future project, though no official announcement has been made.

Alejandro Sanz's Connection to Cuba

Sanz's ties to Cuba run deep. Yotuel performed "Patria y Vida"—the protest anthem that won the Latin Grammy for Song of the Year in 2021—at Sanz's concerts in Tenerife in July 2022 and Miami in September 2023.

The Spanish artist has also publicly supported Cuba-related causes. In June 2025, he voiced support for young Cubans protesting against ETECSA's tariffs, and in February 2026, he spoke out against repression aimed at the youth project El 4tico.

Meanwhile, Roldán and Yotuel reconciled in March 2025 after years of estrangement, reviving Orishas. They are currently on their international "Represent Cuba 2026" tour, with stops across Latin America, Europe, and the United States.

Roldán's post is the second in less than a week documenting the encounter at Sanz's home, further cementing the personal and artistic bonds among the three. Yotuel summed it up succinctly in his September 10 message: "Thank you for who you are, for your music, your legacy, but most importantly, for what you mean to my Cuba and to so many Cubans who hold you dear. Cuba loves you."
