Damián Fernández Peña, a 27-year-old from the Isle of Youth who works as a medical studies coordinator in Miami, made his mark on the New York Fashion Week runway during its September 2026 edition. He emerged as one of the Cuban faces in this prestigious international event.

The opportunity arose through an invitation from RNBCuba (Cuba National Beauty Pageant), led by Sergio Meso, in recognition of his performance in international men's pageants.

Damián showcased a design by Uno Rodriguez during the unveiling of the Spring/Summer 2027 collection, held at St. Bartholomew's Church, located at 325 Park Avenue, New York.

The outfit he modeled was named "Lumière Noire": a black double-breasted tuxedo with satin lapels, a black velvet bow tie, and wide-leg trousers.

In addition to this presentation, Damián also walked for designer Leo Almodal during the same week, as he personally confirmed.

From Bangkok to New York's Fashion Scene

His journey to the New York runway began in 2025 when RNBCuba selected him to represent Cuba at Manhunt International, the world's oldest male beauty pageant.

In June 2025, Damián competed in Bangkok, Thailand, alongside representatives from 37 countries, earning a spot in the Top 20—a historic achievement for the Cuban delegation.

Cuba had not participated in this contest since 2010—marking a 15-year absence—and had not reached the finals since 2002, a 23-year gap in top placements at the event.

"Cuba participated until 2010 but hadn't reached the top since 2002. Fifteen years without competing and 23 years without making it to the top," explained Yuliet Peña, Damián's mother, to CiberCuba.

Balancing Medicine and Fashion

This impressive performance opened doors to New York: "Because of this, RNB Cuba invited him to participate in New York Fashion Week this year," she noted.

In his daily life, Damián balances his healthcare role in Miami with modeling, a dual career that has taken him from medical appointments to one of the world's most significant fashion showcases.

His sister, Cuban model Daylin Rodríguez, is also a notable figure in the beauty world: she won the Miss Carnaval Miami crown in 2023 and proudly represented the island at Miss Grand International last year.

Damián's participation in Fashion Week was supported by EC Entertainment & Media, Kubo Productions, and My Runway Project, among other collaborators, with photographer RJ Ensalada capturing the event's images.

The New York Fashion Week of September 2026, which previewed the Spring/Summer 2027 season, took place from September 10 to 15, according to the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) schedule.
