Cuban Singer Frank Almaguer Stuns Audience on 'Yo me llamo Colombia' with Emotional Performance, Wins Best of the Night Award

Cuban singer Frank González Almaguer captivated the audience and judges on Tuesday night, earning the Best of the Night award in episode 38 of the eleventh season of "Yo me llamo Colombia," the renowned imitation reality show by Caracol Televisión. Almaguer delivered a stunning performance of "Prometo" by Spanish singer Pablo Alborán, accompanying himself on the piano.

The award, sponsored by Betano, is valued at two million Colombian pesos. Almaguer, visibly moved, humorously stated, "Hello, my name is Pablo Alborán, and I just won two million pesos," staying true to the character he portrays in the competition.

The night's challenge was particularly demanding: incorporating the piano into the performance without losing the Spanish accent or vocal quality, a task Almaguer acknowledged as especially taxing.

"I'm very proud because it was a challenge, truly a challenge today. I had to play the piano, and I prepared a lot, especially with the accent, which has been a focus throughout this time," he expressed after receiving the accolade.

The judges and audience responded with a standing ovation. One panel member described the performance as "almost acapella, with your piano but at half voice, and having such an organic feeling as you sang it, perfectly in tune as Pablo Alborán deserves."

The show's host encapsulated the evening's sentiment: "I feel that Pablo achieved something very difficult tonight; he moved absolutely all of us."

For Almaguer, "Prometo" holds significant personal meaning. He recounted how years ago, he uploaded a cover of the song to his social media, and Pablo Alborán himself shared it on Instagram, which led the Cuban public to request it at every concert.

"It's a song I love for its style and what it represents," he shared. His connection to it is so profound that during the rehearsal, he felt chills while playing and singing it.

After learning of his victory, Almaguer couldn't hold back tears. On social media, he wrote, "So many things come to mind at that moment—my dreams, my family, my country, and all the work behind this. Every day I try to give my best with all the respect in the world."

He also expressed gratitude for the unexpected support he received on digital platforms: "I never expected all the support I'm getting on social media; honestly, it's been overwhelming, to a level I didn't anticipate."

Almaguer first appeared on the show on July 23, performing "Quién" by Pablo Alborán, earning unanimous approval from the judges, including Amparo Grisales, César Escola, Elder Dayán Díaz, and Aurelio Cheveroni. He was introduced as the first "Yo Me Llamo Pablo Alborán" in the competition's history.

Before joining the reality show, Almaguer had established his own career: in March 2026, he released "Color Café," which had garnered over 167,000 views on YouTube by the time of his debut on the show. He has emphasized that his participation in "Yo me llamo" does not mean abandoning his musical identity.

The season's grand prize, a substantial 500 million Colombian pesos, awaits the final winner of the competition, which airs nightly at 8 pm on Canal Caracol.
