Leandro Gamboa Pelegrín, a young boy from Ciego de Ávila, has embarked on a new chapter in his life after undergoing a complex reconstructive surgery in Camagüey. This comes nearly three years after he suffered severe burns from an electric shock. Leandro has been discharged to continue his recovery journey.

According to Radio Cadena Agramonte, the surgery was performed by a multidisciplinary team of specialists from both the Eduardo Agramonte Piña Pediatric Hospital and the Manuel Ascunce Domenech Provincial Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital in Camagüey.

The procedure was necessary to address the aftermath of the serious burns caused by the electric shock. The collaboration among the medical experts and the support from Leandro's family were key components highlighted by the radio station.

Following the surgery, Leandro was released from the hospital and continues to make progress in his recovery, part of a long treatment journey that began in late 2023.

The public first became aware of Leandro's case in January 2024, when it was revealed that doctors in Ciego de Ávila had managed to save his life after burns covered 60% of his body.

At that time, he was identified as Leandro Daniel Gamboa Pelegrín, an eight-year-old, who was admitted on December 16, 2023, to the Dr. Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial General Teaching Hospital in Ciego de Ávila.

Initially, Leandro spent several hours in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit until he achieved hemodynamic stability. His treatment required a multidisciplinary approach from the start.

In addition, the Frank País Hospital in Havana contributed by supplying temporary skin coverage for the affected areas, while Leandro's mother donated skin for a homograft procedure.

Almost three years after his initial hospitalization, the reconstructive surgery in Camagüey marks a pivotal stage in Leandro's recovery, allowing him to leave the hospital following the operation.
