This Monday, a group of residents apprehended a man accused of snatching a cell phone from a university student in Palma Soriano, Santiago de Cuba. They managed to retrieve the device before law enforcement arrived.
The event took place in an area known as El Sierra, as reported by independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada on Facebook.
According to the report, the suspect allegedly grabbed the phone and attempted to flee, but bystanders quickly intervened, stopping him and recovering the phone.
Photos from the scene depict the suspect surrounded by a crowd of citizens. Initially seated, he was later seen lying on the ground as they awaited police arrival.
"It wasn't a police operation that caught him; it was the people present who acted, intercepted him, and retrieved the phone," Mayeta Labrada noted.
Eventually, police officers arrived, took the suspect into custody, and transported him to a station in Palma Soriano.
As of now, no official information has been released regarding his identity or the potential charges he may face. Mayeta Labrada identified the victim as a university student.

"Justice shouldn't turn into a street beating. Apprehending a suspect is the role of the authorities, and determining guilt is a matter for the legal system," he cautioned.
