On Monday, striking waterspouts drew the attention of locals and tourists alike at Navarre Beach in northwest Florida, as they formed over the Gulf waters and were visible from the shoreline.
The Facebook page Beautiful Moments Photography by BeBe shared multiple photos and videos of the phenomenon, capturing the spouts clearly from the beachside.
Reports indicate at least two waterspouts were seen during the event.
In one video, the page specifically identified one of the formations as "the second waterspout," highlighting its impressive size.
"This was the second waterspout, and it was huge!" the page noted in an early post.
Another image celebrated the "front-row seats from Navarre Beach to watch the waterspout," drawing attention to people who remained in the water while the spectacle unfolded in the distance.
The user who shared the scene later described it as "quite epic," noting that the event took place Monday morning.
Phenomenal Formation and Weather Conditions
In a detailed fourth post, the user recounted how one of the waterspouts evolved. "It was amazing to watch this waterspout form. The first photo was the initial sighting, and then it left only to return bigger and better," they explained.
The morning's weather conditions were conducive to such phenomena.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, which oversees the Pensacola area, issued a special marine warning at 6:11 a.m. on Monday for coastal waters from Pensacola to the Okaloosa-Walton County line, including the Panhandle stretch that encompasses Navarre Beach.
The advisory warned that radar-detected strong storms could produce waterspouts and wind gusts of 34 knots or more.
The NWS also cautioned that these waterspouts could overturn vessels and create hazardous marine conditions, with smaller boats at risk of damage from stronger gusts and sudden wave surges.
Recurring Phenomena Along Florida's Coast
This spectacle was not an isolated incident in the area.
Just a day earlier, on Sunday morning, the NWS reported rain and storms capable of generating waterspouts approximately nine nautical miles south of Navarre Beach.
According to the NWS, waterspouts are vortices that form over water. They can be linked to severe thunderstorms or be of the non-supercell type, commonly referred to as "fair weather" waterspouts, which frequently occur in Florida during the rainy season.
While many are relatively small and short-lived, they may still pose a threat to mariners.
Florida has experienced several similar occurrences this past summer.
On August 23, the NWS confirmed an EF-0 tornado in Port St. Lucie that, at one point, crossed the St. Lucie River as a waterspout before making landfall again. The phenomenon reached estimated maximum winds of 65 to 75 mph, traveled about 2.1 miles, and resulted in no casualties or injuries.
Additionally, on August 1, a waterspout was spotted over the Banana River, north-northwest of Port Canaveral. The occurrence was recorded around 3:50 p.m. by a Port Canaveral camera and quickly dissipated over water, causing no damage or injuries.
Another event took place on July 17 near Sebastian Inlet. According to an NWS report from Melbourne, a waterspout came ashore about a mile south of Sebastian Inlet, classified as an EF-0 tornado, with estimated maximum winds of 65 mph. No fatalities or injuries were reported.
Such phenomena are common along the state's coastlines. In June 2025, two spectacular twin waterspouts were simultaneously captured off Anna Maria Island on Florida's west coast.
