Police Sweep in Hialeah Following Reports of Gunfire: Several Detained

A significant law enforcement operation unfolded in the gated community of Aquabella, located in northwest Hialeah, on Tuesday afternoon. This came after authorities received reports of gunfire in the vicinity, as reported by Telemundo 51 and other Miami-based media outlets.

The Hialeah Police Department confirmed that several individuals were taken into custody, although the exact number remains undisclosed. Additionally, two suspicious vehicles were found within the neighborhood on the 13000 block of Northwest 97th Avenue.

While the investigation persisted for several hours, initial reports from authorities indicated that no injuries were discovered.

Altercation Escalates to Gunfire

According to NBC, the incident began with a physical altercation between two groups of young individuals near the community.

WPLG Local 10 reporter Gabrielle Arzola, who was on the scene, provided details: "It appears that two groups of youths were involved in a fistfight, and investigators informed me that at some point, two shots were allegedly fired."

As officers arrived on the scene, multiple groups dispersed into the residential complex, prompting a large-scale operation to apprehend those responsible.

Massive Police Presence in Action

The scale of the police deployment was significant.

"I counted about 40 law enforcement units on just this corner, not including the dozens more operating inside the apartment complex," stated an observer.

In addition to the Hialeah Police, the Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office also responded to the scene.

Officers established an active perimeter, deployed canine units to verify the credibility of the reported gunfire, and entered several homes in search of suspects.

Cell phone footage captured the moment officers, with weapons drawn, subdued two individuals. One man was seen lying on the ground as police pointed their weapons, while another was observed lying on the pavement from a different angle.

Both were taken into custody shortly thereafter.

Despite the detentions, no formal arrests had been made at that point: "Two individuals have been detained, but so far, no arrests have been made."

School Lockdown and Resident Frustration

As a precautionary measure, Miami-Dade County Public Schools initiated a temporary lockdown at West Lakes Preparatory Academy, located near Aquabella, as reported by CBS Miami.

Numerous concerned parents anxiously waited nearby until they were eventually allowed to pick up their children.

The situation also impacted dozens of residents returning home from work, only to find access completely blocked. Wait times extended for over two hours.

"All entrances are closed... we've been waiting here for more than two hours," a resident told Telemundo 51.

Another person waiting expressed frustration: "I've been here for an hour and a half, and nothing... no movement."

Maria Franco, a resident of Aquabella, summed up the collective frustration: "After a long day at work, having to wait two hours in line to get home is too much."

Residents were finally permitted to return to their homes shortly before 6 p.m.

Ongoing Investigation with No Confirmed Injuries

Meanwhile, investigators conducted interviews and processed evidence at the scene to determine each individual's level of involvement.

A resident waiting in line summarized the local buzz: "Apparently, they're searching inside Aquabella for the person responsible for all this."

Yaisel, another resident of the complex, expressed relief despite the fright: "I was scared for the people living around, for my family. I knew Hialeah police would handle it, so we’re safe."

This incident adds to a series of gun violence episodes recorded in Hialeah during 2026, a city where 84% of its over 223,000 residents are of Cuban or Cuban-American descent.
