According to Canal Caribe's weather forecast on Monday, the storm resulted from a combination of several atmospheric factors. "The passage of two tropical waves south of Cuba, combined with an upper-level low situated south of the western part of the island, near the Isla de la Juventud, generated instability," a meteorologist explained.

This situation, coupled with persistent humid air over the country and maximum temperatures between 91 and 97 degrees Fahrenheit, created optimal conditions for the development of showers, rain, and lightning storms, especially in the interior and southern central regions of Cuba, precisely where Cienfuegos is located.

The weather agency also cautioned that "in areas with rain and associated lightning storms, wind strength and wave height could locally increase."

This type of phenomenon is typical during Cuba's rainy season, which spans from May to October, with peak lightning activity occurring between June and September. The hailstorm that hit Camagüey in July and the lightning strike on a pole in Güira de Melena are part of the same seasonal pattern, which this year has produced striking images across several provinces.
