A man has been taken into custody following a violent incident at El Tenis beach in Matanzas city, where two women suffered multiple injuries caused by a broken bottle and required hospitalization.

The pro-government platform Con Todos La Victoria reported on Saturday that the suspect, Ismael Valdés del Toro, was involved in an altercation that erupted during a gathering where alcohol was being consumed, sparking a personal dispute.

According to this account, the two women were attacked in the water with a "bottle fragment."

One victim sustained nine wounds to her neck, abdomen, and lower back, while the second woman suffered seven injuries around her chin and neck.

Both women are currently hospitalized at the Provincial Hospital "Comandante Faustino Pérez." The report did not provide specific details about their medical condition, only stating they were severely injured.

The official source claimed that Valdés del Toro was apprehended on the scene. It was also mentioned that he resides in Havana and has a history of crimes including violent theft, assault, disorderly conduct, illegal possession of weapons, and attempted assault.

However, NiO Reportando Un Crimen presented a different perspective on how the confrontation began.

The platform, led by reporter Niover Licea, stated that it had previously received messages, photos, and testimonies about the incident.

A source familiar with the case alleged that one of the women initially injured the man, who then retaliated using the same bottle fragment.

Both accounts agree that the two women were injured, Valdés del Toro was involved, and he was arrested following the incident.

This incident is particularly noteworthy as it occurred at the same beach where, just weeks earlier, another act of extreme violence was reported.

On August 1, a 19-year-old named Raúl Maturell Labrada died following a violent altercation at La Carpa, a recreational center located at El Tenis beach.

A 15-year-old was detained as the alleged perpetrator, although the precise circumstances of that confrontation remain under investigation.

Such incidents add to a series of recent violent events in Matanzas province involving weapons.

In June, a 17-year-old girl was fatally wounded with a knife during a fight with another minor in Cárdenas. The conflict started hours earlier in a park and concluded in front of the victim’s home.

In March, a brawl involving knives and machetes in Jagüey Grande resulted in the deaths of two young men and injuries to others. The clash began near a park and ended outside the El Mambo nightclub.
