In the early hours of Saturday, a tragic accident claimed the life of a man in Palmetto Bay when the pickup truck he was driving crashed violently into a flatbed semi-trailer on U.S. 1, one of the busiest highways in South Florida, as confirmed by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at approximately 6:37 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Southwest 184th Street, located in the southwestern part of Miami-Dade County.
The Incident Unfolds
According to Local10 reports, a Dodge pickup truck collided head-on with the flatbed semi-trailer, sparking a small fire in the vehicle's engine compartment.
Surveillance cameras positioned in the vicinity captured the exact moment of the crash. The footage, shared by Telemundo 51, starkly depicts the Dodge Ram slamming into the truck's platform, highlighting the impact's severity.
"The crash ignited a small fire inside the pickup truck. The driver of that Dodge Ram was pronounced dead at the scene," reported Telemundo 51, citing the FHP.
Aftermath and Investigation
The pickup truck driver perished at the accident scene, but his identity has not been publicly disclosed. Meanwhile, the semi-trailer operator emerged unscathed from the collision, as confirmed by FHP officers who responded to the incident.
Due to the accident, authorities temporarily closed U.S. 1 between Southwest 183rd and Southwest 186th streets for several hours to facilitate investigation and cleanup efforts.
A Dangerous Highway

County statistics underscore the problem's severity: in 2025, Miami-Dade reported between 255 and 257 fatal collisions, resulting in 271 to 273 deaths, according to local data, making it one of the state's most dangerous areas for road safety.
