Fire Truck Crashes into Home in Placetas, Villa Clara

A firefighting tanker from the Placetas Fire Department, known as Command 6, collided with a house on Wednesday. The incident happened on the Central Highway, heading towards Zaza in the Villa Clara province, as reported by CMEP Radio Placetas on social media.

The fire truck was on its way to respond to an emergency situation in the Benito Juárez area when the accident took place.

Due to reasons still unknown, the vehicle ended up slamming into the front of a building located between First and Second Streets South.

Initially, the incident resulted in property damage and one injury: the firefighter driving the truck suffered a head laceration.

The injured driver received initial medical care at the Daniel Codorniú Pruna Hospital in Placetas and was later transferred to the Neurosurgery Department at the Arnaldo Milián Castro Hospital in Santa Clara, the main hospital in the central region.

The local MININT Delegate confirmed the details to the Placetas radio station, noting that authorities were assessing the damage at the scene. The exact causes of the crash are still under investigation.

Images shared on social media show numerous local residents gathered at the accident site, with the fire truck embedded in the house's facade.

Villa Clara is one of the Cuban provinces with the highest road accident rates. In 2025, over 600 accidents were recorded in the area, resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries. This trend has continued into 2026, with several severe accidents on the Central Highway and other regional roads.

In May, a truck accident in Placetas resulted in two deaths and 13 injuries.

Emergency vehicles often travel at high speeds when responding to urgent calls, increasing the risk of accidents on busy roads like the Central Highway, which passes through Placetas.
