Luis Robert Jr. Continues Home Run Streak: Seven Seasons with 10 or More Homers

Cuban baseball player Luis Robert Jr. etched his name into the history books on Tuesday by smashing his tenth home run of the 2026 season with the New York Mets. This achievement extends a streak that spans his entire Major League Baseball career: hitting at least 10 home runs in each of his seven seasons, as documented by the official MLB statistics.

The home run came during the sixth inning of a game against the Milwaukee Brewers, where the Cuban outfielder punished an 89.4 mph cut fastball from pitcher Chad Patrick. The ball left the bat at 101.8 mph, traveled 390 feet, and temporarily put the Mets ahead 2-1.

According to sports journalist Francys Romero on social media, Robert Jr.'s home run sequence per season speaks volumes: 11 in the shortened 2020 season, 13 in 2021, 12 in 2022, an explosive 38 in 2023—still his career-best, 14 in 2024, 14 in 2025, and now 10 in the current season.

Overcoming Challenges to Achieve Greatness

What makes this milestone even more remarkable is the context in which it occurred. In 2026, Robert Jr. was placed on the injured list in late April due to a lumbar disc herniation and did not return to the field until July 20, after nearly three months out.

Since coming back, the Cuban has showcased a rejuvenated form at the plate. Six of his 10 home runs have come in just 14 games, a pace that includes two home runs hit on August 22 during his return to Chicago to face the White Sox, his former team, in a 10-5 victory for the Mets.

That game in Chicago was particularly memorable: Robert Jr. was greeted with boos from the local fans but responded by hitting two home runs against his former White Sox teammates.

A Major Move to the Big Apple

The outfielder joined the Mets in January 2026 in a trade with Chicago, in exchange for infielder Luisángel Acuña and pitcher Truman Pauley. New York took on his $20 million salary for this season.

With this latest home run, Robert Jr. brings his career total in MLB to 112 home runs, solidifying his status among the most productive Cuban players in Major League history.

Back in August 2025, while still with the White Sox, the Cuban slugger joined the 100-home run club in MLB, becoming the 22nd Cuban-born player to reach this milestone and the fourth to do so wearing a Chicago uniform, alongside José Abreu, Minnie Miñoso, and Alexei Ramírez.

Now, with the season still underway, Robert Jr. aims to finish strong in his first campaign with the Mets and prove that, despite injuries, his power remains undiminished.
