Randy Arozarena, the Cuban-born player now a Mexican national, has etched his name into the annals of baseball history. This past Sunday, he achieved his sixth consecutive MLB season with at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases, marking him as the first Cuban-born player to reach such a milestone in Major League Baseball.
According to journalist Francys Romero, the Seattle Mariners' outfielder reached this landmark with his 20th home run of the 2026 season, hit against Japanese pitcher Shota Imanaga of the Chicago Cubs.
This accomplishment was realized less than a day after a remarkable performance by Arozarena on Saturday against the same Cubs. During that game, he hit two home runs, including a two-run shot that secured a 5-4 victory for Seattle, and made an outstanding catch in the outfield to rob a potential home run.
That game left him just one home run shy of the historic achievement. The following day, Arozarena sealed the deal.
The streak began in 2021 when Arozarena, then with the Tampa Bay Rays, recorded exactly 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases. He has continued to excel since: 20-32 in 2022, 23-22 in 2023, 20-20 in 2024, and his best performance, 27-31, in 2025, already with the Mariners.
With six consecutive seasons, Arozarena now stands as the second Latin American to achieve this feat, trailing only Venezuelan Bobby Abreu, who had seven consecutive 20/20 seasons in his career, as noted by Romero.
In the broader context of MLB history, the longest streaks belong to Barry Bonds with nine consecutive seasons, and both Bobby Bonds and Bobby Abreu with seven each. Arozarena, with six, joins this elite group of players who have consistently combined power and speed over the years.
Arozarena reached this milestone after a 2025 season filled with achievements: he hit his 100th career home run in July of that year, became the first Cuban to play in the postseason with the Mariners, and was selected for the American League All-Star Game.
By mid-August, with 17 home runs already in the 2026 season, Arozarena was already expected to complete his sixth consecutive 20/20 season.
