In Holguín, Johnny Luis Quevedo Inza has been taken into custody on charges of severely attacking his two-year-old stepson.

The incident was initially reported by the independent platform NiO Crime Reporting and later verified by the pro-government page Cazador Cazado through their Facebook posts.

The alleged assault occurred in the Hilda Torres neighborhood of Holguín, where Quevedo Inza is accused of striking the child and subsequently submerging him in a water tank in what has been described as an attempted murder.

The toddler is currently receiving medical care at the Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja Pediatric Hospital, the leading pediatric facility in eastern Cuba.

A collaborator from Cazador Cazado present at the hospital mentioned that the child's life is not in immediate danger.

Alarming Details Emerge About the Child's Condition

New accusations reaching NiO Crime Reporting suggest a far graver situation. An anonymous source claims that the child has visible bruises all over his body, including around his eyes, and couldn't undergo surgery due to malnutrition and low hemoglobin levels.

The source further revealed that the mother has another child, aged four, who also reportedly suffered physical abuse by Quevedo Inza, including cigarette burns.

It was also reported that the mother herself endured domestic violence, bearing marks and swelling around her eyes, according to the same testimony.

Accused's Criminal Background Under Scrutiny

Authorities are expected to investigate Quevedo Inza's criminal history, as the source indicated he was recently released from prison for a prior offense involving an attack on another young person with a knife.

Following the assault on his stepson, Quevedo Inza fled but was actively pursued by law enforcement until his capture on Saturday afternoon.

Rising Incidents of Child Abuse in Cuba

This case joins a growing list of child abuse incidents in Cuba that have sparked public outrage, primarily reported through independent social media platforms due to limited coverage by official media.

In October 2025, a mother and her partner in Holguín were arrested after a video went viral showing them beating a ten-year-old girl with a stick. In July 2025, a mother and stepfather faced murder charges in Matanzas following the death of a two-year-old showing signs of abuse. In March 2026, a malnourished and abused baby was rescued in Camagüey, leading to the mother's arrest.

In light of this recent incident, the pro-government platform Cazador Cazado called for reflection: "We urge parents, family members, or guardians to find alternatives and solutions without resorting to physical or verbal abuse."
