Fresh revelations have come to light regarding the case of Carlos Estenos, a young man from Camagüey whose body was discovered under suspicious circumstances. Independent journalist José Luis Tan Estrada, affiliated with the platform Tanteando Cuba, has uncovered disturbing details concerning the handling of Estenos's remains in the area known as Las 500, located in the Vertientes municipality.

The citizen platform NiO Reportando Un Crimen initially reported the incident, suggesting preliminarily that the body might have been found bound and burned, possibly linked to a robbery involving money and horses. However, these claims have not been officially corroborated by Cuban authorities. Carlos was reported missing the day before his body was found, with family and friends circulating his photo on social media in search of information about his whereabouts.

According to testimonies collected by Tan Estrada, Carlos had gone to the location willingly, as he supposedly knew and trusted the person who allegedly lured him there under the pretense of purchasing animals.

Testimonies indicate that while Carlos lived in the city of Camagüey, his body was transported to Vertientes, where it was hastily buried at night. A major concern for the family is that Carlos's parents, Mercedes and his father, were not permitted to view or bid farewell to their son. Tan Estrada noted, "The only family member who was able to see the body was his brother, who was called to identify him."

The family claims that Legal Medicine ordered the immediate burial without performing an autopsy. Currently, Carlos's parents, residing in the Nadales neighborhood in Camagüey, are demanding answers from the Provincial Government. "They are at the Provincial Government's office in Camagüey seeking explanations about their son's fate," the journalist reported.

Additionally, the family insists on having Carlos's remains returned to Camagüey, where he lived. "They were denied the opportunity to say goodbye or even see their son's body," Tan Estrada declared.

The journalist further warned that the case could involve more complexities than currently known: "Sources indicate there are other aspects of the death that remain undiscovered, and a thorough investigation might reveal new details regarding the circumstances of Carlos's demise."

The discovery occurs amidst a backdrop of growing insecurity in Camagüey, a province that has recently witnessed violent robberies and other criminal acts. The rural area of Vertientes, where the body was found, had previously been the scene of another crime that went unreported by state media.

To date, neither the Ministry of the Interior nor the Prosecutor's Office has issued any public statements about the case or announced the start of a formal investigation.
