The Cuban telecommunications company, ETECSA, has admitted on Friday to being accountable for the erroneous earthquake alert that was sent to mobile phones across various parts of Cuba on August 18. The company attributed the mishap to a "technical-human error" made by their specialists during routine network testing.

Following the incident, the Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba took swift action by launching an investigation to trace the source of the false warning. This inquiry ultimately clarified that the alert originated from within the company’s own telecommunications network.

"It was determined that the messages were disseminated due to a technical-human error, caused by our specialists conducting tests on the telecommunications network," the company stated.

This acknowledgment confirms that the mishap stemmed from internal operations managed by the state-controlled company, dismissing any connection to an actual seismic event.

ETECSA further assured that after evaluating the situation, "appropriate measures have been taken against those responsible" and steps are being implemented to prevent the recurrence of such an incident.
