Correos de Cuba has once again cited the ongoing fuel crisis as the reason behind the delays in package deliveries across the nation, clarifying to a customer that resolving this issue is beyond their control.

This explanation was reiterated in several responses from the Customer Service Department of the Grupo Empresarial Correos de Cuba on their official website. Users had lodged complaints in late July regarding packages that had been stalled for weeks without reaching their destinations.

One of the grievances, dated July 28, was filed by a customer whose package, including medicines, food, and hygiene products, was shipped from Camagüey to Nuevitas on July 8. By July 25, the package had not arrived, and the customer reported that a postal worker informed them that a Correos de Cuba vehicle had arrived, but without the expected parcels.

The company responded on July 28, stating, "Unfortunately, we are currently experiencing significant delays in the transportation of shipments due to the country's fuel shortage, a situation that Correos de Cuba cannot resolve."

Another complaint came from a user with a package sent from Spain on June 11. The parcel was processed for delivery to Matanzas on July 17 but remained unmoved ten days later.

Correos addressed this on July 28, noting that "the delay in routing shipments is linked to the unavailability of fuel," a predicament that has caused "considerable delays" in moving packages to their final destinations.

These grievances add to others posted on the same platform by individuals awaiting packages from Spain, Italy, Mexico, and other countries. In numerous instances, users have noted that their packages are logged in the system but remain stagnant for weeks within Cuba.

The explanation concerning the fuel deficit isn't new, and there appears to be no improvement despite the users' complaints and official responses dating back to July.

At the start of last month, Correos had already acknowledged delays in the international package distribution to provinces, attributing the holdups to transportation challenges from Havana to final destinations.

This issue traces back at least to last year. In June 2025, over 4,000 shipments destined for Sancti Spíritus were backlogged in Havana. The local entity cited difficulties due to the lack of fuel, transportation, tires, spare parts, and batteries.

The crisis has even impacted overseas shipments. In April of that year, Peru's postal service temporarily halted the acceptance of packages bound for Cuba due to disruptions caused by the aviation fuel shortage and connectivity issues with the island.

This situation unfolds amid a broader energy crisis. In May, Energy and Mines Minister Vicente de La O Levy admitted that Cuba was devoid of fuel oil or diesel reserves for electricity generation, stating, "We have absolutely no fuel, absolutely no diesel."
