The Nicaraguan government has commenced the installation of a metal sculpture honoring Fidel Castro on the Bolívar to Chávez Avenue in Managua. This event is timed as part of celebrations marking the centennial of the late Cuban dictator's birth.
This development was announced on Monday by Nicaragua's co-president, Rosario Murillo, as reported by the pro-government outlet El 19 Digital.
Details regarding the sculpture's dimensions, cost, exact location on the avenue, or the scheduled unveiling date remain undisclosed. However, it is speculated that the event might coincide with Castro's birthday.
Murillo mentioned that throughout this week, Nicaragua will engage in activities commemorating the 100th anniversary of Castro's birth, occurring on Thursday, August 13.
“This week, from this blessed Nicaragua, we will partake in the centennial celebrations of Fidel,” she remarked.
National Celebrations and Installations
The co-president further revealed that the Sandinista regime plans to hold events at universities and municipalities while the sculpture is installed on Bolívar to Chávez Avenue.
Crafted by workers from the National Electric Transmission Company (ENATREL), Murillo praised them for creating "another marvel."
"ENATREL workers have crafted another marvel, a metal sculpture being installed with great honor and pride on Bolívar to Chávez Avenue," she declared.
The Sandinista leader emphasized the sculpture aims to honor what she described as the "leader of the Our American and Caribbean Revolution," recalling Castro's visit to Nicaragua.
Murillo asserted that the Cuban dictator inspired revolutionary struggles and supported the Nicaraguan people, whom she called "brave" and "heroic," saying they "give their lives for peace."
She concluded by invoking "God's blessing" and "favor," affirming that Nicaragua will continue to build the future it deserves, "free from poverty."
International Homage to Castro
This installation aligns with an intense schedule of events celebrating Castro's centenary both within and beyond Cuba. The Cuban regime inaugurated the first International Colloquium "Fidel: Legacy and Future" in Havana, drawing over 1,500 delegates from 63 countries, including more than a thousand foreigners.
The colloquium will take place over three days at the Convention Palace and other venues in the Cuban capital. During the opening, Miguel Díaz-Canel addressed the attendees as "ambassadors of the truth" and "witnesses that Cuba does not surrender."
This marks one of the regime's most extensive propaganda efforts, resource expenditures, and personality cult promotions in honor of the late dictator, amidst one of Cuba's most severe economic crises.
