Cuban first baseman Yandy Díaz once again demonstrated his prowess on Sunday, securing four hits in the Tampa Bay Rays' 4-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners, as reported by Pelota Cubana.

The native of Villa Clara concluded the day with an impressive 5-for-4 performance, featuring four singles, one run scored, and another driven in, solidifying his role as a key offensive player for the Tampa Bay team.

This marked his fifth game of at least four hits in the 2026 season and the 14th in his entire MLB career, underscoring the Cuban's remarkable ability to deliver multi-hit performances consistently.

With this achievement, Díaz raised his batting average to .298, accumulating 131 hits over 439 at-bats, along with 65 RBIs for the season.

His offensive stats for 2026 also include 20 doubles, one triple, and 15 home runs, placing him among the most complete hitters in the American League.

The victory brought the Rays to a 71-46 record, placing them at the top of the American League East Division with a 5.5-game lead over the Yankees, riding a streak of six consecutive wins and an 8-2 record over their last ten games.

Díaz's performance on Sunday is just one highlight in a season filled with milestones for the player born in Sagua la Grande: he kicked off the year with a historic pace, batting .429 in his first six games, and on July 25, he made Rays history by becoming the fourth player in the franchise to reach 1,000 hits, joining the ranks of Carl Crawford, Evan Longoria, and Ben Zobrist.

Additionally, he was the first Cuban to join this historic group in Tampa Bay.

Earlier, on May 7, Díaz reached his 1,000th career MLB hit with a ground-rule double at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox, adding another chapter to a season that cements his status as a leading figure in Cuban baseball within Major League Baseball.

With the Rays leading the charge in the East Division and Díaz in top form, the Villa Clara native is poised to wrap up 2026 as one of the most complete seasons of his career.
