The incident occurred around 7:00 PM, near the entrance to the military unit commonly known as Boinas Rojas, when four motorcycles were speeding down the road.
A witness reported that, following a maneuver between two of the bikes, one of the riders couldn't brake in time for a cyclist ahead, resulting in a severe collision.

A friend of Leandry, who claims to have been at the scene, stated that both were returning from La Estrella beach, each on their own motorcycle: "We left La Estrella. I was on my bike, and he was on his. The accident happened at the entrance of Boinas Rojas. He collided with the bicycle."
Following the crash, a woman riding as Leandry's passenger was thrown from the bike, suffering friction burns, while the cyclist—an elderly man—sustained a leg fracture and significant head injuries, including a large forehead wound.

Leandry’s friend had to urge military personnel in the area to assist the young man and transport him to the Joaquín Castillo Duany Military Hospital in Santiago de Cuba. There, Leandry was admitted to intensive care with severe trauma and swelling, initially preventing any surgical intervention.
Hours after his admission, the same friend relayed more grave news: "My friend is still in a very bad condition. Doctors say he has brain death due to all the head injuries."
