A young Cuban man recently faced one of his deepest fears head-on when he encountered a large spider in Camagüey's Plaza de la Revolución. After some hesitation, he allowed the creature to crawl across his hand.
This moment was captured in a video shared on the SobreRuedas Facebook page. The young man recounted how the spider was near the water when his friend Edward fearlessly picked it up, seemingly unfazed.
"If there's one thing I've been afraid of my whole life, it's this creature," he admitted while watching Edward handle what appeared to be a tarantula from the Phormictopus genus atop his head.
After some persuasion, his friend convinced him to hold the spider as well, turning the situation into a personal challenge.
"They say it's never too late to overcome your fears," he remarked while letting the spider explore his hand.
The experience turned out to be less unpleasant than he had anticipated. "Honestly, it doesn't feel as disgustingly unpleasant as I thought it would," he joked, likening the sensation to having a caguayo, a type of lizard, walk on his skin.
Other group members also handled the spider, and at one point, the creature remained still on someone’s hand, leading the group to speculate it was either tired or in a defensive pose.
Ultimately, Edward returned the spider to the grass, choosing a spot deemed more suitable than where they initially found it.
