Claudia Artiles Confronts Insult Against Down Syndrome: "My Son Has More Values Than Many"

Cuban influencer Claudia Artiles recently took to social media with a strong response to an audio clip in which a woman used Down syndrome as a derogatory term against a client who had paid her over $2,000 for a course.

In the video, shared on TikTok and Instagram, Claudia starts by playing the audio, where the woman tells her client, "Maybe you have Down syndrome, my dear, and you don't get it, so you need to go to a special school, since you don't have the necessary skills to work with the public."

The dispute arose because the client claimed that she had not learned anything from the course despite the hefty payment, and the seller retaliated with this disparaging comparison.

Standing Up for Her Child

Claudia, who is the mother of Marlon, a child with Down syndrome, did not let the comment slide without addressing it. "To humiliate someone, you don't need to bring Down syndrome into it," she asserted.

The influencer was unapologetically clear, highlighting that the real lack of customer service skills came from the woman in the audio. "I believe the only one here who lacks the ability to work with clients and address your audience and customers is you," Claudia declared.

Valuing Her Son

Claudia emphasized her son's virtues when confronted with those who use his condition as an insult: "My son has more education, more love, and more values than what you call 'normal' people."

Although she chose not to disclose the name of the woman's business—"I won't give you free publicity"—she concluded with a pointed message: "There are many people with Down syndrome who are more professional and more educated than you, and far more decent. I'm done with you."

Public Support and Previous Defenses

The public response was overwhelming and supportive. On Instagram, the video garnered over 463,000 views, more than 25,800 likes, and 1,850 comments. On TikTok, it accumulated an additional 158,100 views.

One notable comment came from a fellow mother of a child with the same condition: "As a mother of another child with Down syndrome, I can only thank you."

This isn't the first time Claudia has publicly defended her son. Earlier in the year, she addressed criticisms about Marlon's upbringing, showcasing his progress in signing and counting to those who doubted whether he was receiving adequate therapy.

Residing in Miami and boasting over 779,000 followers on Instagram, Claudia concluded her video with a powerful statement: "Before you call someone abnormal, check yourself first, because a truly normal person doesn't need to use a condition to defend themselves."
