Cuban musician Alain Pérez has joined the movement advocating for the release of humorist and digital creator Eddy Ceballos. On Sunday, he shared a photograph of Ceballos on his Facebook profile with the message: "Eddy is Innocent... freedom."
This statement comes shortly after Ceballos' mother, Marieta Pérez Alfaro, shared a letter from her son written from prison, in which he rejects the espionage charges levied against him by the Cuban regime.
In his letter, Ceballos declares from behind bars: "I am an artist, not a spy; a humorist who portrays the reality visible to all, not a criminal."
He concluded his letter with a hopeful message: "I hold onto the hope of reuniting to continue sharing tales of resilience through the streets of my beloved, battered, and broken Havana. With faith and love intact."
The creator of the satirical channel Despingovery Channel has been imprisoned for two months without his case proceeding to trial.
Ceballos was arrested on June 1, 2026, in the Diez de Octubre municipality of Havana by State Security forces, following the release of a video exploring an abandoned military facility containing Soviet-era missiles, radars, and Cold War bunkers.
The initial charge was "trespassing on military property," which the legal organization Cubalex has noted does not exist in the current Cuban Penal Code.
The situation was later escalated under Article 116 of the Penal Code, accusing Ceballos of "revealing secrets related to State Security," a charge that carries severe penalties ranging from 10 to 30 years, life imprisonment, or even the death penalty.
The family has pointed out that the filmed site was decommissioned in 2025.
The regime also arrested the channel's cameraman, Christian Rodríguez Riverón, who remains detained in Boyeros on similar espionage charges.
Daniela Escarra, Ceballos' wife, has been a prominent voice condemning the situation. "I am convinced that they are trying to make Eddy an example to instill fear in others," Escarra publicly stated in July.
Alain Pérez is not the first public figure to voice concern over the case; comedian Ulises Toirac also showed his support for Ceballos in June, noting that his fears about communication laws in Cuba were being realized.
Residing outside Cuba, Pérez has a history of speaking out against the regime's repression. During the July 11 protests in 2021, he condemned the government's violent actions, and in June of this year, he expressed solidarity with his people amidst the electrical crisis, stating, "I share in my people's pain and denounce it."
