Willy Bermello, a Cuban-American architect known for designing Donald Trump's upcoming Presidential Library in Miami, has announced that the project is set to begin construction by late 2027. He anticipates its completion between 2029 and 2030, aligning with the end of Trump's potential second term in office.
"I'd say construction should kick off in late 2027. Our aim is to have this project completed by the end of 2029, after the president leaves the White House, showcasing its full splendor from 2029 to 2030," Bermello shared in an interview with Tania Costa on CiberCuba.
Bermello, who founded Bermello Ajamil & Partners, confirmed that the preliminary design is already finalized. "The initial design is complete, all requested adjustments have been made," he stated.
A Landmark in Miami's Skyline
Positioned as a 47-story skyscraper adjacent to the Freedom Tower in downtown Miami, the building, though dubbed a "Presidential Library," will primarily serve as a museum celebrating Trump's presidential legacy. "Visitors will be able to see the Oval Office exactly as the president left it," Bermello explained.
The structure will feature attractions such as a precise replica of the Oval Office, a Hall of Presidents with photos and dedications to all past presidents, and a reconstruction of the ballroom Trump is developing at the White House, mirroring its exact specifications.
Historical Preservation and Exhibits
Bermello also mentioned that the ground floor will display Air Force One and significant presidential artifacts. "Of course, we'll have the Air Force One; we'll have the large bomb dropped in Iran, the first one targeting Iran's nuclear facilities. It's going to be an incredible museum at the building's base," he noted.
The architect emphasized the historical preservation intent behind the design. "It's possible that future presidents, especially if from a different party, might change many things he has done. So, with this building, we aim to capture and preserve all of the president's works," he emphasized. This includes executive orders, accomplishments, and the three assassination attempts on his life during his public career. "He's faced three attempts on his life. All of this will be captured in the building," Bermello added.
Challenges and Legal Hurdles
The library is set on a 2.63-acre plot adjacent to the historic Freedom Tower. The state of Florida approved the land transfer on September 30, 2025, and the Miami Dade College board sanctioned the transfer on December 3 of the same year. The plot, valued at approximately $67 million, was transferred to the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library Foundation, Inc. for the symbolic price of ten dollars.
Despite the grand vision, the project faces challenges. In May 2026, local residents filed a federal lawsuit aiming to halt the land transfer.
