Early Saturday morning, a collision between two boats on Biscayne Bay near Bay Harbor Islands in Miami-Dade County resulted in three individuals being injured and subsequently taken to a hospital, as confirmed by the police to Local 10 News.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. near West Broadview Drive and 103rd Street, as reported by Bay Harbor Islands Police officers who were on the scene.
The three victims were aboard one of the vessels involved in the crash. They received medical attention at a nearby healthcare facility, although officials did not immediately disclose their identities or the extent of their injuries.
The other boat involved in the collision ended up at the Haulover marina, located nearby. Authorities have yet to release information on how many individuals were on this vessel or if any sustained injuries.
As dawn broke around 9 a.m. on Saturday, much of the area remained cordoned off. One of the boats was partially submerged in the bay, with only the canopy structure visible above the waterline.
To prevent the vessel from sinking further, police secured it with a long cable tied to a patrol vehicle while teams worked on-site. The boat was eventually towed away.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officers arrived at the scene to lead the investigation into the accident, as they are the state authority responsible for such maritime incidents.
Ongoing Safety Concerns on Biscayne Bay
This event adds to a series of serious accidents in Biscayne Bay during 2026. In March, two fatal accidents occurred within a week: on the 25th, Davide Veglia lost his life, and his 14-year-old son was injured when their boat was struck by another vessel that fled the scene. Four days later, a woman died after losing control of her boat near Nixon Beach Sandbar.
In May, a charter boat explosion near Haulover Sandbar resulted in at least 11 hospitalizations and was classified as a Level 2 Mass Casualty Event.
According to 2024 FWC statistics, Miami-Dade leads Florida in boating accidents, recording 75 incidents, 41 injuries, and 8 fatalities that year, out of a state total of 685 accidents, 394 injuries, and 81 deaths.
