Thursday, July 23, 2026 by Claire Jimenez

Cuban singer Frank Almaguer emerged as a standout star during the premiere of the eleventh season of "Yo Me Llamo," the popular impersonation reality show by Caracol Televisión. He captivated the judges with his rendition of "Quién" by Spanish musician Pablo Alborán.

In a historic performance, Almaguer managed what no contestant had achieved in the previous ten seasons: a convincing portrayal of Pablo Alborán, earning him the title of the first-ever "Yo Me Llamo Pablo Alborán" in the show's history.

Judge Amparo Grisales was particularly moved, encapsulating the performance's impact with her remarks: "I’ve waited 11 seasons for a Pablo Alborán. Pablo, here he is; for me, he is your brother."

Grisales also highlighted that Almaguer earned "the two arms of Amparo," a special acknowledgment in the show, confessing that his performance gave her "the shakes in her chair."

Following his performance, Frank Almaguer expressed his emotions and proudly introduced himself to both the audience and judges: "It's a dream for me to be here; I’ve always watched the show from my country. Please excuse my emotion, I am Cuban. Viva my beautiful Cuba!"

Almaguer received unanimous approval from the four judges—Amparo Grisales, César Escola, Elder Dayán Díaz, and Aurelio Cheveroni—allowing him to advance in the competition.

The impact of his audition quickly spread across social media. The main video of his performance on Facebook has garnered over 581,000 views and 50,000 reactions, with other clips from the same evening accumulating hundreds of thousands of additional views.

Beyond the Reality Show

Apart from "Yo Me Llamo," Frank Almaguer has an established musical career that drew attention even before his appearance on the Colombian show. His song "Color Café," released in March 2026, has surpassed 167,000 views on YouTube.

Almaguer, who is the brother of actor Carlos Luis González, clarified on his social media that his participation in "Yo Me Llamo" does not mean he will abandon his musical identity: "I will continue making my own music, offering my style, which is obviously influenced by Pablo Alborán, whom I admire greatly."

The program's current season received over 3,500 applicants from ten countries, including Cuba, and the prize for the adult winner is 500 million Colombian pesos.

Frank Almaguer concluded his message of gratitude to his followers with a heartfelt request: "Join me, don't leave me alone in this new adventure."
