Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel took to social media on Friday to express his views, drawing parallels between Washington's strategies and historical events like McCarthyism, Nazism, and Operation Condor.

In the initial post of his thread on X, Díaz-Canel declared that the United States is witnessing a "new and more dangerous version of McCarthyism."

He intensified his rhetoric by stating that Trump’s administration exhibits a "threatening transnational projection" and forges "far-right alliances reminiscent of Hitler's fascism or the notorious Operation Condor, targeting what they call a 'global radical left.'"

The Cuban leader also posed a rhetorical question: "Are excuses being fabricated to justify new abuses and further aggression?"

Díaz-Canel accused what he terms the "imperial right" of a litany of crimes, including the genocide in Gaza, extrajudicial killings, the "hunting, torture, and murder of migrants," the bombing of a girls' school in Iran, and the "genocidal blockade against the Cuban people."

He concluded the thread with a warning: "The real threat to humanity is the philosophy of dispossession that drives the war actions of the transnational far-right."

These remarks come just four days after the U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed sanctions on ten Cuban entities, including the Ministry of Tourism, the Rapid Response Brigades, the Territorial Troops Militias, and several companies linked to the military conglomerate GAESA.

The Trump administration has levied over 240 restrictive sanctions against Cuba since taking office. In June, OFAC had directly sanctioned Díaz-Canel himself, along with his wife Lis Cuesta, Alejandro Castro Espín, and the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces.

Díaz-Canel's statements continue a pattern of strong rhetoric throughout 2026. In January, he described the U.S. operation in Venezuela as "neofascism" and "state terrorism." By March, in an interview with La Jornada, he discussed a "resurgence of fascism," and in May, he outright labeled the Trump administration as a "fascist government."
