A six-year-old Cuban boy living in Texas has touched thousands of hearts on social media after initiating a campaign to purchase a solar panel for Ediel González, a child with cerebral palsy living in extreme poverty in Sabanilla, Matanzas, Cuba.

Mauro, the compassionate young boy, recorded a video where he shared his mission with a simplicity that resonated with many. The story gained attention after being shared by journalist Javier Díaz and covered by Univision.

The Lemonade Stand That Bridged Borders

In his video, Mauro expressed his intentions with a sincerity that many adults would struggle to match:

"I want to share something today. There's a boy in Cuba who can't move his little feet or hands and can't speak. With all the money I have, since electricity often goes out in Cuba, with these coins and bills, I'm going to buy him a solar panel so when the power goes out, he can turn on his fan."

But Mauro didn't stop with his savings. He asked his mother to help him set up a lemonade stand.

"Support me so I can raise enough money with the lemonade stand I'm going to set up to help the boy," he explained.

The community's response exceeded all expectations.

Through social media, over $1,290 was raised, enough not only for the solar panel Mauro envisioned but also for an EcoFlow power station.

Mauro's mother expressed her astonishment: "What can I say? I'm almost speechless with how happy we are. I never imagined such a quick response from so many people."

The story concluded with a touching sentiment from Mauro's mother:

"Just as God once multiplied the loaves and fishes, this time He worked for good and multiplied all these coins into a large amount, at least for us, allowing us to buy the energy station and solar panel for that boy so he won't have to suffer in the heat again."

As of the publication, the family was arranging to send the equipment to Ediel in Cuba.

Ediel González: Experiencing Kindness

Ediel González, around seven years old, suffers from childhood cerebral palsy and is unable to move his hands or feet, nor can he communicate verbally. He resides with his family in dire conditions in Sabanilla, Matanzas.

This isn't the first time Ediel has been the recipient of kindness.

In May 2023, when he was just four years old, religious figure Javier Candelario Diéguez, head of the "Charity Works Matanzas" project, initiated a campaign to secure a specialized wheelchair for him, describing Ediel as "an angel from heaven deserving of happiness."

Thanks to that initiative, Ediel received his new wheelchair. However, three years later, he continues to face hardships that would be unimaginable for families in other countries.

Darkness Breeding Solidarity

Mauro's gesture comes amid Cuba's worst energy crisis in decades. Journalist Javier Díaz summarized the situation aptly: "Today, having electricity in Cuba is almost a luxury, and those with alternative sources often have loved ones abroad."

This month, the electricity generation deficit reached a historic 2,341-megawatt shortfall, with Matanzas experiencing blackouts lasting up to 87 consecutive hours.

Cuba has suffered four total collapses of the electrical system so far in 2026, exacerbated by the cessation of oil shipments from Venezuela and Mexico.
