The news was confirmed by Julio Aleaga Pesant, a fellow independent journalist and unionist who was among Dominguez's closest companions during his years of illness. According to Cubanet, Dominguez was in the process of undergoing a second leg amputation—having already lost the first—when he passed away.

I know that during these years of illness and difficulty for Victor, Julio Aleaga was more than a friend."
The Legacy of a Voice for Independent Thought
Born in Bayamo in 1957, Dominguez spent three decades documenting Cuba's political, social, and cultural realities from an independent stance, free from state control. Since 1996, he contributed to Cubanet, becoming one of its veteran columnists with works focusing on human rights and Cuban society.
Beyond journalism, Dominguez was a prolific writer, producing poetry, narratives, screenplays, and critiques. His poetry collection, "Café sin Heydi frente al mar," is among his noted works. Despite receiving accolades in national poetry and story contests, several of his pieces were censored for ideological reasons and never published in Cuba, while others were pulled from state-run publishers.
As the vice president of the Club of Independent Writers of Cuba, Dominguez also led a labor and union training center. He worked with the publication Puente de Letras, promoting writers who operated outside the Cuban Writers and Artists Union's controlled circuits, a state body known for its ideological filtering.

He gave everyone a nickname; as soon as you turned your back, you'd have yours. Rest in peace, 'Vittorio'."
