Motorists traveling along Interstate 95 in southern Florida are already encountering signs for the "President Donald J. Trump International Airport," days ahead of its official renaming, which is set to occur on July 9.

According to reports from WPTV and WPBF, crews worked overnight from July 1 to July 2 to replace the signage at exit 69B in both directions. This change has already been seen by thousands of drivers over the weekend.

The timing of the installation coincided with the busy travel period around the Fourth of July holiday, ensuring maximum visibility for those heading to the airport.

Although the official name change is scheduled for Wednesday, July 9, the transition process will extend beyond that date.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will adopt the new name, but the airport's IATA code—which airlines use for tickets and reservation systems—will remain PBI until it is updated to DJT on August 18.

Laura Beebe, Director of Airports for Palm Beach County, explained, "Airlines recently voted in favor of changing the IATA code, which is the code that appears on tickets and reservation systems. The change will take effect on August 18."

The transition is not expected to affect ticket purchases, reservations, or baggage handling. The airport has also set up a FAQ section to guide passengers through the process.

Passenger Reactions: Indifference Prevails

Inside the terminal, many travelers expressed little concern over the name change in interviews with local media.

"I knew it was going to happen. For me, it's just a name change. There are plenty of places named after presidents," said traveler Nibras Jarrar.

Another traveler, Fedor Welebob, remarked that the essential factor is that the airport continues to operate smoothly.

The airport's administration acknowledged the divided opinions on the decision.

"While we recognize that the name change may be received differently by our passengers, we appreciate your continued support during this transition period," stated an official announcement on the airport’s website.

Legislative Approval and Legal Challenges

The name change was approved this year through House Bill 919, supported by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis on March 30.

The initiative is expected to cost over five million dollars to update signage, technology systems, uniforms, and promotional materials. The airport, located about eight kilometers from Mar-a-Lago, serves approximately 8.6 million passengers annually.

The renaming has also faced legal challenges. One lawsuit was filed by pilot George W. Poncy Jr., who argues that the law oversteps state authority and could pose aviation safety risks.

Additionally, attorney Victoria Doyle filed another legal action on July 2, questioning the trademark licensing agreement with the company managing President Donald Trump's intellectual property.

Despite these legal proceedings, the change is proceeding as planned. Starting August 18, the new DJT code will appear on airline tickets and reservation platforms.
