Cuban third baseman Miguel Vargas couldn't hold back his tears when his teammates on the Chicago White Sox informed him of his selection for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game, marking his first appearance in the summer classic.

The team's official Facebook page shared images of the touching moment, captioned, "Vargy's reaction to his All-Star nod has us in our feels," highlighting the emotional impact on the team and fans alike.

In the photos, Vargas is seen in the team's clubhouse, covering his face with his black White Sox sweatshirt, visibly moved to tears, while clutching his commemorative plaque. His teammates surround him, applauding and rejoicing in the moment.

Vargas's Stellar Season

The call to the All-Star Game comes during a breakout offensive season for the 26-year-old from Havana. At the time of the announcement, he had already hit 20 home runs, driven in 55 runs, and posted an OPS of .854, ranking him among the most productive third basemen in the American League.

Vargas's 2026 performance marks a significant leap from previous seasons. In 2025, he needed 138 games to hit 16 home runs, but in the current season, he matched that figure in just 65 games.

He was also the first third baseman in all of MLB to reach 40 RBIs this season, a testament to the consistency that earned him a spot among baseball's elite.

Cuban Representation at the All-Star Game

The Cuban native is one of seven players from the island selected for the 2026 All-Star Game, the second-highest participation by Cuban players in the event's history, only surpassed by the 2023 edition, which featured eight Cuban athletes.

Representing Cuba in the American League alongside Vargas will be Yordan Álvarez (Houston Astros, fourth selection), Yandy Díaz (Tampa Bay Rays), Randy Arozarena (Seattle Mariners), and Aroldis Chapman (Boston Red Sox, making his ninth appearance at 38 years old).

In the National League, Andy Pages (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Raisel Iglesias (Atlanta Braves) will join Vargas as first-time All-Stars, although Iglesias has been in the major leagues for 12 years.

From Cuba to the Big Leagues

Vargas, the son of legendary Cuban baseball player Lázaro Vargas, left Cuba at the age of 16 with his father. He was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers in September 2017 for $300,000, making his MLB debut in August 2022 before being traded to the White Sox for the 2025 season, where he established himself as one of the league's most dangerous power hitters.

The 2026 MLB All-Star Game is set to take place on July 14 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, and with seven Cuban representatives on the roster, the Caribbean island will have one of its largest presences in the event's history.
