A 42-year-old Cuban mother was recently discovered deceased inside a vehicle in Las Vegas, Nevada, after falling victim to gunfire.

The bodies were discovered in the early hours of Sunday, June 14, alongside a man of Mexican descent.

The incident is being investigated as a potential murder-suicide, according to a statement from the North Las Vegas Police Department in Clark County, as reported by local media.

Although authorities have not publicly disclosed the name of this mother of three, those close to her have identified her as Yaumila Guillén Zaldívar, also known as "La Guajira Triple M."

Originally from Holguín, she had been residing in Las Vegas for about six years.

The North Las Vegas Police discovered the lifeless bodies inside a white Toyota Highlander SUV, parked on the 1800 block of East Lake Mead Boulevard.

According to Telemundo Las Vegas, officers responded to the scene around 3:48 a.m. on Sunday after receiving calls about two people with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.

Medical personnel declared both victims dead at the scene, and the SUV appeared to have a bullet hole in the driver-side window.

The Victim's Identity

On social media, the victim was known as "La Guajira," "La Guajira Triple M," or "La Dura."

Crime reporter Niover Licea shared that Yaumila worked at a business identified by friends as "El Rincón Nayarita," located in the same area on East Lake Mead Boulevard.

Licea described the victim as a determined and well-loved woman: "She had lived in Las Vegas for approximately six years and had three children. Three children who are now tragically left without their mother in the care of their father."

The identity of the man remains undisclosed as of the close of this report.

Licea also mentioned that, based on accounts from those close to her, the crime might have occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday, after the establishment where she worked had closed, although the bodies were not discovered until early Sunday morning.

Community Reaction

The news has deeply impacted the Cuban community in Las Vegas, leading to an outpouring of condolences on social media.

A friend expressed having had "the fortune" of hugging her the previous Saturday.

"Such a good mother, such a good wife, such a good friend, and the most prosperous woman in that place... an amazing woman... a woman with three children, a true fighter, please show some respect," she lamented.

In the same post, another friend reacted with outrage at the negative comments circulating on social media from "people who speak without knowing or understanding the individuals involved."

An Area Plagued by Violence

Employees of nearby businesses interviewed by Telemundo Las Vegas voiced concerns about the area's safety.

According to city data cited by the media outlet, 45 crime reports were filed in that area just last week.

However, city authorities maintain that there is no indication of an increased threat to public safety as a result of this incident.

Nonetheless, this case adds to a series of violent crimes against Cuban women in Las Vegas in recent years.

In January of this year, a Cuban doctor was arrested for allegedly assaulting his partner fatally in the same city.

Shortly after, in May, another Cuban man was detained for allegedly strangling his wife, also in Las Vegas.

As of the close of this report, no further information about the case is available.
